♥ Janelle Monáe ♥

A fashion icon and R&B powerhouse, Janelle Monáe is one of the most unique artists to emerge from recent history. With her music that constantly boasts Afro-futurism and is reminiscent of the sounds of James Brown, Janelle Monáe is a breath of fresh air for us. Not only that, her signature style of dressing up black and white has captured the fashion world, earning her a CFDA Fashion Award. She is quoted saying to PeopleStyle, “For me my fashion and my style is connected to my philanthropy and my community.”

Amina Mucciolo, also known as the Tassel Fairy, is a Youtuber, artist, fashion blogger, and entrepreneur. Her focuses include plus size fashion, the cutest DIYs, and lots of pastel colors! Her upbeat and positive energy is incredibly infectious–before you know it, you’ll be flying through all her Youtube videos. You can start with one of my favorites: “How to Install Yarn Braids!”

Also, don’t forget to check out her store here.

♥ Solange ♥

Solange rocked our world with the 2016 album A Seat at the Table. In addition to a unique sound that promoted softness and black pride, Solange’s wardrobe and dance moves are also known to be out of the box, much like modern art. Evidence of that can be seen in her 2013 music video Lovers in the Parking Lot, where she dances in a Houston mall alone in brightly colored clothing. And of course, let’s not forget the brilliant beauty of Don’t Touch My Hair and Cranes in the Sky.

Shameless Maya

Maya Washington, known on the interwebs as Shameless Maya, is a Youtuber who started her channel with a mission to promote herself on the internet shamelessly for 365 days. Five years later, and Maya is still going strong, with nearly a million subscribers. Her videos are of a wide variety, from tech to health and lifestyle. What makes her content stand out, though, is her infectiously positive attitude and bubbly personality.

FKA Twigs

FKA Twigs for Nike

Tahliah Debrett Barnett, known as FKA Twigs, started a career as a dancer before producing and writing her own music. She’s known for her high, otherworldly voice, incredible dance moves, and intriguing (some might say strange) music videos. FKA Twigs has brought a new edge to R&B music that isn’t to be missed.
