Our Favorite Magical (Black) Girls

By now it’s no secret that Black girls are magic. While most people don’t take the phrase literally….we do! And what better way to showcase our favorite magical melanated ladies than to pair them with iconic magical girls.

Issa Rae X Usagi Tsukino

All hail the queen of awkward Black Girls! We love Issa Rae and how she turned a passion project into a major movement, going from Youtube to the HBO with her hit show ‘Insecure’. And did we mention she’s super gorgeous?? Total package right? Reminds us of our favorite bumbling butt-kicking beauty Usagi.

Solange KnowlesΒ XΒ Sakura Kinomoto

Solange is a queen in her own right, ruling over the land of indie fashion and music. While she has always marched to the beat of her own drum, her latest offering, A Seat at The Table, made history (with Beyonce) as the first time sisters have held the number one spot on the music charts in the same year. Solange has been choreographing moves, writing lyrics, and acting as a creative director for various projects for years. I’mΒ happy she’s finally getting the recognition she deserves!

Janelle Monae x Princess Tutu

Janelle Monae burst onto the music scene clad in black and white, crooning about android love. As a quirky sci-fi nerd stumbling my way through high school, the minute I heard her sing “I’m an alien from outer-space”I fell in love with everything she represented. It was at the moment when I was able to embrace the things that made me unique. Now Janelle is a budding movie star with two films under her belt- “Moonlight” and “Hidden Figures”. Go Jane, go!
